The town hosts one of the oldest cultural weeks in the province with exhibitions of art, literature, gastronomy, theatre, music, cinema and children’s activities, among others.
Culture of the City Council of Rincon de la Victoria has presented the XXXIX Cultural Week of Benagalbón which offers more than thirty activities to be developed in different parts of the town, as explained the councilman of the area, Antonio José Martín (PP).
The event hosts national events such as the XVI Painting Contest for Young Outdoor Painters `Paco Alonso´, which last year received fifty participants and whose winning work was created by Fernando Wilson, responsible this year for illustrating the poster announcing the program.
As novelties, the First Microteatro Show `En Breve´ , is presented with the participation of young people between the ages of 13 and 34, representing a wide range of subjects with a duration of between 5 and 15 minutes. The I Photography Contest “Benagalbón. Your look” with the aim of encouraging plastic and artistic creativity through photography and promoting the different spaces of Benagalbón. The three best images will receive awards and the decision will be announced on Friday, April 20.
The mayor of Rincón de la Victoria, Francisco Salado (PP), explained that this is one of the oldest cultural weeks in the province, and one of the most important events held in our municipality. Salado has had words of thanks to the neighbors of Benagalbón “for their dedication and effort in the organization of a quality and successful program of participation open to all ages that takes place in the typical squares and streets of Benagalbón”. He also thanked the collaboration of the Association of Friends of the Benagalbón Library, and the Provincial Council of Malaga.
The representative of the Library and Friends of the Benagalbón Library Association, Enrique Bonilla, stressed the “open nature” of the cultural week and “the involvement of people, groups, associations and administrations that make the continuity and success of this cultural week possible”.
One of the first activities to be held will be the 6th Public Meeting of Reading Clubs, which this year will pay tribute to the journalist and writer Manuel Alcántara. During the event, which will bring together reading clubs from the municipalities of La Axarquía and will be held on 27 April at the Centro de Estudios del Folcloré Malagueño in Benagalbón, poems will be recited in collaboration with the Manuel Alcántara Foundation.
There will also be important events such as the 24th Young Performers’ Concert, the 5th Benagalbón Short Film Competition `Cortoben´, the 4th BTT March, the pilgrimage, flamenco recital, poetry and copla, or the very popular verbena, among others.
The programme will be completed with more activities aimed at young people and children, including painting workshops, popular games, puppet shows, music stories and storytelling, theatre, street parades, etc.
In the gastronomic section you can enjoy a tasting of Andalusian stews and breakfast by the Association of Benalbinas Women, chocolate and desserts in the Plaza de las Flores, and a lunch for adults.
Also, the councilman of Culture has highlighted the interest of the exhibitions that will be open to the public during the cultural week at the School of Adults, the Cultural Center Teleclub, Paco Alonso Exhibition Hall, home of the Association of Benalbinas Women, and the Book Fair during the cultural week.
These activities are included in the government’s agreement with Ciudadanos in the Culture section, specifically “supporting film culture and continuing to hold short film, theatre, literature, painting and music competitions, holding workshops, contests, contests and various activities”.
